Bruce Wittet’s article on the Modern Drummer Magazine USA about the Montreal Drum Fest “From behind the drum set, Vera Figueiredo took the audience from the Brazilian rainforest into the clubs and concert halls of the world. Jaws dropped at her unique presence, approach, and distinctive licks”. And, the fact of being nominated by the British Rhythm magazine “The Queen of Samba”, some other Brazilian and international publications had pointed out Vera Figueiredo’s musical power!
As a true ambassador for the Brazilian Music, Vera had already toured Scotland, Northern Ireland, England, Wales, Mexico, Chile, Italy, Luxemburg, Spain, Portugal, Argentina and the United States ministering workshops, master classes, and shows. She has also being playing at some very important drum set oriented events such as: the Percfest Memorial Naco (Italy), the Ultimate Drummers Weekend (Australia), the Mendoza International Drum Fest (Argentina), the PercuSonidos Festival Internacional de Percusiones (México), AGP Drum Event (Luxembourg), the Days of Percussion (Sweden), the Drum Fest – Primer Festival International de Batería y Percusíon (Chile), the Cape Breton International Drum Fest (Canada), the KOSA International Drum Event (USA), the Brazilian festivals PAS Brazil Chapter, Salão da Bateria, I Encontro Percussivo REC-PEC and Batuka! Brasil International Drum Fest.
She’s played as member of the Avon’s Orchestra accompanying artists such as Diana King, Zélia Duncan, Milton Nascimento, Rita Lee, Leila Pinheiro, Margareth Menezes, among others!
Vera’s 3rd cd, “Vera Cruz Island” (Rainbow records), indicates this matured moment in her craft as a player and a composer: “Vera Cruz Island is like a photo album of Vera’s soul: intense, full of beautiful landscapes and very passionate for her art!” - Régis Tadeu (Batera e Percussão magazine). “Your drumming is so powerful and full of tradition” – Ken Micallef (Modern Drummer magazine - USA). She had also released the following albums: “From Brazil” (Camerati 1995) and “Vera Figueiredo e Convidados” – Vera Figueiredo and Guests – (Baratos e Afins-1990). Launched by the Hudson Music Vera’s new project is a play along book based on the Vera Cruz Island cd, the first of a series of books written in conjunction with Daniel Oliveira, Professor and Course Coordinator of the IBVF.
In 1990, Vera founded the IBVF - Instituto de Bateria Vera Figueiredo, a much respected drum set institute located in São Paulo. The IBVF also makes events such as the Batuka! Brasil International Drum Festival, one of the most important events of the Brazilian musical scenario.
A single DVD with Vera’s instructional videos “Ritmos Afro-Brasileiros” and “Influência Afro-Cubana” was released, now with English subtitles by the Aprenda Música Productions. Vera can also be seen at The Ultimate Drummers Weekend 11 Birthday DVD.
In 2016, she travelled to Sardinia (Cagliari and Sassari), Pescara (Montesilvano, performing at PAS Italy) and Lavagna, Italy, to give clinics and masterclasses about Brazilian Rhythms in-depth. In 2017, she performed as guest in the following events, which took place in Santa Catarina, Brasil: Sabian Day Brasil, TUM Sound Festival and 20th Festival de Música de Itajaí.
While not playing instrumental music with her own band, Vera plays with The Banda Altas Horas, on the Altas Horas TV Show of The Globo TV Network.
