Mario Duplantier |
Mario Duplantier (born June 19, 1981) is a French drummer and artist best known as the drummer for progressive metal band Gojira.
He grew up in a family where arts played a significant role. He developed his drawing, painting, and music skills in an environment of freedom and creativity. In 1996, Mario and his brother, Joe Duplantier, formed the band Gojira (formerly known as "Godzilla"). Mario is known for his technical and rhythmic heavy precision drumming with extended double-bass blasts, mid-tempo rock power grooves, precision tom fills, jazzy drum breaks, and blast beats. Gojira's live show often features his Drum Solos as part of the set. Occasionally, Mario plays guitar during live shows when he and his brother, Joe, switch places. He was crowned as the best drummer of modern metal by MetalSucks in April 2012. Mario Duplantier endorses Tama and Zildjian cymbals. Gojira is a French heavy metal band from Bayonne. Originally formed as Godzilla in 1996, they changed their name to Gojira in 2001 prior to releasing any studio albums. The band's lineup, consisting of brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals, guitars) and Mario Duplantier (drums) as well as lead guitarist Christian Andreu and bassist Jean-Michel Labadie, has been the same since then. They have released six studio albums and three live DVDs. They are known for their environmentally-themed lyrics and have gone from "utmost obscurity" to being placed "amongst the genre's leading new millennium upstarts". Gojira have received Grammy nominations for Best Rock Album for their latest album Magma, and Best Metal Performance for their single 'Silvera'. |
